VisitAberdeenshire and its 12 tourism apostles head for Visit Scotland Expo in Glasgow

VisitAberdeenshire and a group of 12 tourism businesses from the region will spearhead the area’s representation at the Visit Scotland Expo in Glasgow, 26-27 April. Organisers predict the show will attract over £286,000 worth of new business to the area.

Aberdeen was recently ranked by TripAdvisor as the best city in Scotland for tourists to stay in, coming in ahead of Edinburgh and Glasgow and Jenni Fraser (pictured), business development director of VisitAberdeenshire, says: “The Visit Scotland Expo is the largest event of its kind in Scotland, with more than 600 tour operators and travel trade buyers from around the world attending. We have had significant interest from the American, Chinese and European markets, and will meet with them to discuss how we can further establish Aberdeen as a tourism destination. The conference is important as it gives us access to new markets which will generate over £22,000 per exhibiting business according to average figures calculated by Visit Scotland.

“Attending the expo will allow us to plan for the short and long term future to attract visitors to our region from around the globe. In the short term, 2018 is the year of young people in Scotland, which has a strong connection to our unique cultural output including the International Youth Festival and Techfest, while our castles have the ability to bring children’s fairy tales to life.

“Looking further ahead to 2020, the regional development of the new 12,500-capacity exhibition and conference centre will be complete, and cruise ships will be docked on the quayside thanks to the extension of the harbour. Combined with the ongoing route developments both on the ground and in the air, this is a very exciting time for us all in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.”

Partners exhibiting on the VisitAberdeenshire stand at Visit Scotland Expo include accommodation providers Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Course, Skene House Hotel Suites, The Marcliffe, Carmelite, Aberdeen Douglas Hotel, Ardoe House, The Caledonian, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Airport. Attraction providers include; Aberdeen Festivals, Glen Garioch Distillery, Golf Aberdeenshire, Gordon Highlanders and Grampian Transport Museum.
