Hosted buyer applications open for ibtm america 2017

Global exhibitions organiser ibtm events (part of Reed Travel Exhibitions) has opened hosted buyer applications for its 2017 ibtm america event. The pod format show, now in its seventh year, is due to take place in South Florida, 14-16 June.

ibtm america says it will provide qualified hosted buyers with a personalised itinerary of 1:1 meetings with pre-selected exhibitors.

Meetings are paired through ibtm events’ custom-made ‘matchmaking’ software, which creates a diary of mutually matched pre-scheduled appointments for hosted buyers and exhibitors.

The pod format of the show is a cut down version of the exhibition format of the first few editions, but organisers claim last year’s event in Nashville achieved a 97% satisfaction rating from hosted buyers and a 96% satisfaction rating from exhibitors.

Hosted buyers are obliged to attend 30 appointments over three days and need to qualify through the application process. They also are given a full itinerary of networking and immersive events.

Jaime McAuley, event director at ibtm america, said: “Taking place in a new location each year to showcase a different destination for events within North America and to attract a new pool of hosted buyers, ibtm america consistently attracts first-class global exhibitors and high profile hosted buyers with an average annual budget of almost $17m.

“The show’s pod format means our exhibitors and buyers can meet on a 1:1 level and our sophisticated matchmaking service ensures the best possible connections are made.”

McAuley claimed that 4,000 meetings held during the 2016 event had led to over $9m of business being placed.

The three-day programme kicks off with a ‘Discovery Day’ designed to bring hosted buyers and exhibitors together to explore the local destination ahead of the meetings.

Taking in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area, the Discovery Day in June begins with lunch at the host venue, the Diplomat Beach Resort, followed by either a water taxi tour of the City or a tour of the Florida Everglades before culminating in a sunset cruise on the Atlantic.
