ATPI strengthens Sports Events management team on back of global wins

Global travel management and events business, the ATPI Group, has beefed up its Sports Events management team with two senior appointments.

Helen van Berkel will take on the role of managing director, sports and corporate events, Netherlands and Canada, and Michiel Aulbers has been appointed as commercial head of global sports events.

ATPI says its Sports Events business has seen strong growth in recent months with significant business wins in the UK, Australia and The Netherlands.

The wins include the agency’s appointment as the official global hospitality agency for the 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race. This is in addition to taking on the role of official ticketing and hospitality services partner for the Canada Olympic Committee which will see the team arrange travel for Team Canada athletes and mission team members all the way to the 2024 Olympic Games.

In Australia the business has secured the contract to manage both the business and team travel for the AFL Players Association – the representative body for professional Australian Football League players – headquartered in Melbourne.

Van Berkel will report to Andrew Waller, international director of corporate development, and lead ATPI’s events businesses in both The Netherlands and Canada. Aulbers will report to Gary Pearce, chief commercial officer, and be responsible for the commercial strategy, focusing on international expansion alongside ownership of relationships with sports governing bodies and other key sports clients through ATPI’s global footprint.
