The Meetings Industry Association (mia) has revealed the latest industry experts and entrepreneurs to join its much anticipated ‘Don’t stop – rethink’ conference.
Dedicated plenary sessions during the full day conference on 20 March at Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury, which is open to both members and non-members, will encourage the sector to not rest on its laurels and instead embrace the opportunities offered post-Brexit.
In an enlightening and engaging opening key note address, Trevor Williams, professor of economics and finance at Derby University and member of the Institute of Economic Affairs Shadow Monetary Policy Committee (SMPC), will put the current economic forecast into context and share what he believes the impact will be as we enter a post-Brexit era.
As 70% of the current hospitality workforce is made up of non-Britons and many venues have already witnessed a sharp decline in European applications since the EU referendum, there will be a dedicated session encouraging the sector to collectively take a fresh approach to this worrying trend.
Chaired by Jane Sunley – business author and chairman and founder of employee engagement specialists Purple Cubed – will focus on solutions to attracting and retaining talent in the sector.
Sunley will be using her extensive experience as a pragmatic people expert and career guru to challenge the panel, which includes Andrew Lockwood, Forte professor of management in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Surrey University as well as Chris Sheppardson, founder and managing director of leading executive management and recruitment consultancy Chess Partnership, to discuss and equip delegates with practical solutions.
Former assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service and global security expert Bob Quick and hospitality and events consultant Bridget Baker will be discussing safeguarding and security and the impact of terrorism and crime on the travel, tourism, events and hospitality sector.
A dedicated panel discussion chaired by conference presenter Jeremy Jacobs and featuring Tracy Halliwell MBE, Director of business tourism & major events of London & Partners and Dierdre Wells of UKInbound will examine being prepared for change and how we sell the UK as a leading events destination.
Other panel discussions will see Ciara Feely Cahalane of Conference Convertor and Ciara Crossen of Wedding Dates providing practical solutions on increasing conversions and revenue at little cost while Conference News deputy editor Martin Fullard will chair a discussion featuring Mark McCulloch from We ARE Spectacular and Alex Barros of Adsertor on the key emerging social media trends.
In a rousing closing address, motivational speaker Richard Newman of specialist training company Body Talk will ensure attendees leave feeling energised and inspired to implement creative solutions in the future.
