QHotels has appointed Christopher Wayne-Wills as its new general manager of The Midland Hotel in Manchester.
Wayne-Wills has 22 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, including a stint as manager of the Manchester Piccadilly Hotel and as regional MD for Macdonald Hotels. He was most recently GM at QHotels’ Slaley Hall, in Northumberland and has also been chairman of the Edinburgh Hotels Association.
“It’s truly a privilege to be asked to lead an exceptional team at such an iconic hotel,” the new GM said. “Having been away from Manchester for a few years it has been a real pleasure to see how the hotel has continued to develop, but also how the city has changed and grown in that time, particularly the hotel and restaurant sector.”
Wayne-Wills replaces previous GM at The Midland, Mike Magrane, who earlier this month moved to glh Hotels in London to take up the role of operations director. Glh operates the Thistle and Thistle Express brands, as well as Amba Hotels and every Hotels.
QHotels also said it would continue to invest in the landmark city centre hotel, including in bedroom refurbishments and within the hotel’s food and beverage offering.
The Tea Room at The Midland will be a dedicated space for afternoon tea and is scheduled for an April opening, following the refurbishment of Adam Reid at The French, which will be launched in February.
The new work follows a £1.5m investment into creating The Spa at The Midland.
QHotels MD Michael Purtill, added: “We understand the importance of The Midland Hotel to Manchester and the responsibility of the role of general manager, so Christopher was a natural appointment. Not only does he have significant experience of prestigious resort and city centre hotels, he has previous experience of the Manchester market. We’ve now worked together at QHotels and previously at Paramount Hotels, where he was deputy GM at our hotel in Edinburgh, so it feels like we have come full circle.”
