The Meetings Industry Association (mia) has appointed Mia Butler as sales director.

The key appointment will see Butler, who joins from events group and venue finding agency Sundial, report directly to mia chief executive Jane Longhurst.

In the crucial new role, Butler will be drawing on her 20 years’ experience of working in the hospitality industry and knowledge of hotels, venue finding and teambuilding, to help the mia reach its aggressive membership growth, accreditation and sponsorship targets.

“When I became aware that this new position was being made available, I thought it was too good an opportunity to pass by,” said Butler, who had been working for Sundial since 2004. “It’s a great honour to work for one of the sector’s leading trade associations, which is so highly regarded by the industry.”

She will be bringing lots of energy and enthusiasm to the role. She said: “I’m really passionate about the industry we work in. The value of the membership offered by the mia is fantastic and I will be concentrating on helping the team to spread the word even further.”

Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: “We are delighted to welcome Mia to the association as she is so well known within the sector and brings a wealth of experience and commercial insight as well as a reputation for championing and advancing best practice.
