When two Whittleburys become one: Park brings Hall into single business

Northamptonshire leisure and hospitality businesses Whittlebury Park and Whittlebury Hall & Spa have been brought into one family controlled business by Whittelbury Park owners Jeff and Carol Sargeant.

The Sargeants already owned the freehold of Whittlebury Hall and bought the hotel, conference and spa out of administration for a reported £20m.

Whittlebury Hall had operated for five years under administrators AlixPartners and recent accounts to 31 December 2015 showed the business reported an 8.5% increase in revenue to £16.6m, with pre-tax profit up 11.8% to £1.9m.

Whittlebury Park funded the acquisition of the Whittlebury Hall & Spa business funded with a loan from OakNorth Bank, creating a single business encompassing a four-star hotel with 254 bedrooms, conference and training centre and banquetting facilities for 3,000 delegates. There is also a leisure club and one of the UK’s largest spas and a 36-hole championship golf course sitting within parkland that was once part of the Royal hunting ground of Whittlewood.

The combined estate now a backdrop for multi-activities and outdoor events, while dedicated venues including The Pavilion and The Orangery – licensed for civil cermonies – can accommodate parties and weddings for up to 650 people.

MD Charles Sargeant commented: “I am very much looking forward to leading the combined organisation in this exciting period of expansion. We have one of the largest independent, multi award-winning hotels in the country, one of the best golf courses in the UK and a team of over 400 exceptional people. By combining world-class facilities with the personal touch that only a family business can provide, we are in the unique position to deliver long-term investment that will result in the very best service to our customers.”

To celebrate the new business Whittlebury Hall & Spa is offering up to 45% extra on Exclusively Yours rewards for new bookings made between now and 31 March 2017 and taken in February, July, August and December 2017 – when visitors can also take advantage of the on-site 1GB fast free unlimited broadband.

Whittlebury Hall has two access points into Silverstone Circuit and is a 10-minute drive from junction 15a of the M1.

Jeff Sargeant said of the deal: “We’ve always found that in times of dislocation, the best entrepreneurs find opportunities to grow stronger businesses. Whittlebury’s ambitious plans for expansion is a great example of this – it is a strong family business that is taking strategic steps to ensure the business will thrive for generations to come.”
