HRH The Princess Royal and Ore Oduba, BBC Sports presenter and current Strictly favourite, were among special guests for the UK Coaching Awards 2016 at the Holiday Inn London – Wembley.
The Princess Royal presented the highest accolade of Coach of the Year to Eddie Van Hoof, head national coach for British Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, who led this year’s Olympic team to a wealth of victories. He was also crowned High Performance Coach of the Year.
Over 350 guests from all over the UK attended the annual star-studded event in the hotel’s Empire Suite following UK Sport’s residential World Class Performance Conference 2016 (WCPC16) which was held on the previous day.
Organised by Sports Coach UK, the awards evening was held to honour sports coaches and coaching organisations who have demonstrated outstanding success over the previous 12 months.
John Driscoll, executive director, Sports Coach UK said: “The opportunity to co-locate the event with UK Sport’s World Class Performance Conference this year worked very well for us. It made great sense from an efficiency and logistical perspective to run one event after the other at one venue. The Holiday Inn London – Wembley team did a very good job of differentiating the two events and managing two separate clients while making sure everything ran smoothly.”
Denzil Ratman MIH, general manager at Holiday Inn London – Wembley said: “We feel incredibly proud that Holiday Inn London – Wembley was chosen to hold this exciting and prestigious event, the evening was a real success.”
