A new manager at Old Trafford

Emirates Old Trafford has announced the appointment of Michael Hewson as general manager of the new Hilton Garden Inn, which opens in 2017.

Hewson brings over 17 years’ experience and arrives from The Academy Hotel in Bloomsbury, London where he held the position of general manager. Previously Hewson worked at the 5-star Marriott, Threadneedles Hotel and the County Hall Hotel in London.

The new hotel at Emirates Old Trafford, operated by Lancashire County Cricket Club under a franchise agreement with Hilton Garden Inn, will replace the Old Trafford Lodge and is due to be completed in the summer of 2017 in time for the Fourth Investec Test Match between England and South Africa, starting on 4 August.

There will be five floors with rooms overlooking the world famous cricket pitch that can be converted to hospitality boxes on match days. There will also be a bar, restaurant, fitness centre and a branded coffee shop.

On his new position, Hewson said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the team at the Hilton Garden Inn at Emirates Old Trafford. It’s a really exciting project to start working on and I’m hugely excited about the hotel’s potential.

“I have a clear vision and picture of what success looks like here. I can’t wait to have a team in place here that delivers on our promise to create a unique experience that includes the other fantastic facilities and events Emirates Old Trafford hosts.

“One of the attractions of this opportunity is the uniqueness of Emirates Old Trafford. We can host up to 2,000 delegates around the ground with natural daylight as well as having a brand new 150-bed Hilton Garden Inn. It’s going to be an incredible all-round venue once the hotel is completed.”

Daniel Gidney, chief executive at Emirates Old Trafford welcome Hewson to the company, saying: “On behalf of everyone at Emirates Old Trafford, I am truly delighted to welcome Michael to the Hilton Garden Inn. He brings with him a wealth of experience in five star service, gained in similar hotels which share our passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences.

“He joins us at an important time as we look to establish our new Hilton Garden Inn at Emirates Old Trafford and I know that he will be a very valuable addition to our team.”
