Manchester Central chairman steps down

John Early (pictured) has stepped down as chairman of North West convention venue Manchester Central after 12 years.

Early, founding partner of Genr8 Developments, a specialist mixed-use urban regeneration company, helped steer the venue through a major redevelopment and rebranding project, when the exhibition venue was combined with the city’s international conference centre to become Manchester Central.

Charlie Cornish, chief executive of Manchester Airport Group (MAG), will succeed Early, having joined the board last year.

Angie Robinson, CEO of Manchester Central, said: “John has played a significant role in shaping Manchester Central into the world class venue it is today. Although we are sad to see him step down, Charlie’s appointment provides us with a great opportunity to further establish our position within the city and work even closer with other leading businesses to develop our offer.”

Manchester Central attracts around half a million visitors to the city each year and generates more than £75m economic impact.
