Green Tourism, which claims to be the world’s largest sustainable certification programme of its kind, is marking World Tourism Day, 27 September 2016, with the launch of a campaign for improving member benefits, including a free annual digital marketing health check.
The initiative follows research showing that what members value from the programme is products and services that deliver significant value and business return.
Case studies will be another way for members to get their activity noticed and other initiatives will include introducing a business resource library, bespoke, support from expert assessors and technical experts and use of the Green Tourism Carbon Calculator tool.
Jon Proctor, Green Tourism’s chief executive, explains the importance a Green Tourism certification has on a tourism business: “As World Tourism Day raises awareness internationally of the importance of tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value, we felt this was the perfect day to launch our new campaign. The Green Tourism team has undertaken extensive research within the hospitality and tourism markets and spoken with all of our members to devise these new benefits and new ways of working. We are pleased with the results.
“Our ambition is to drive the green tourism revolution around the UK, Ireland and beyond. We hope our work to date and our recent listening exercise with members will demonstrate this commitment.”
Working with 2,000 businesses, across the tourism and hospitality sectors in the UK and abroad, Green Tourism assesses the green credentials of a business and rates their efforts against a rigorous set of criteria on the basis on Bronze, Silver and Gold.
