New communications manager joins VisitScotland

VisitScotland has appointed a new marketing and communications manager to join its Business Events division.

Lucy Bates has been brought in to support VisitScotland Business Events’ wider marketing team to deliver its branding, digital marketing collateral, and public relations remit of promoting Scotland’s world class hotels, venues, universities, and event organisers.

One of Bates’ first tasks will see her manage the redevelopment of the website, due to re-launch in 2017.

Bates brings over seven years of experience in marketing across the travel and arts industries, and joins VisitScotland from (part of The Travel Chapter group) where she was marketing and partnerships manager.

Prior to that she was the marketing officer for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, one of Scotland’s five National Performing Companies. Bates is a graduate of the University of Manchester and also holds professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Speaking of her appointment, she said: “I’m delighted to have joined the VisitScotland Business Events team. Business Events is a key industry for Scottish tourism, generating an estimated £2bn annually for the economy.

“I’m really excited to come on board at this time, with our full calendar of marketing opportunities and planned new initiatives, and I look forward to playing my part in contributing to the continued success of Business Events in Scotland.”
