The Kent International Jamboree (KIJ 2017) has chosen the Kent Event Centre as the venue for when it hosts the world Scouting event in August 2017.
The gathering will see 5,000 Scouts and Guides convene from 29 July until the 5 August 2017.
The world Scouting event takes place every four years, and will see Scouts and Guides representing 25 countries come together to take part in fun activities, educational seminars and make new friends.
All Scouts and Guides will camp at the venue over the eight days of the event and cook their own food onsite. They will take over the entire Kent Event Centre site for the duration.
Kent Scouts county commissioner, Dean Harding, says: “Kent Event Centre is the largest facility of its kind in the county and the ideal fit for KIJ 2017. The infrastructure is perfect for an event of our size and magnitude and we have built a great relationship with the venue team which will ensure the smooth running of a busy eight days onsite.”
Kent Event Centre’s event centre manager, Alison Wallington, adds: “It was really good to win the contract for the Scout International Jamboree in 2017 after a very successful event here in 2013. The Scouting movement is such a valuable part of our community and a wonderful organisation and therefore we are delighted that they have chosen to come back.”
