The Italian city of Naples has won its bid to host the World Tunnelling Congress 2019.
The congress is expected to draw 2,000 participants when it is held in May 2019.
Global PCO, AIM Group International, worked with the Bid Committee and president of the Italian Tunnelling Society (SIG), Andrea Pigorini, to deliver the city’s winning bid. They were backed by the city’s convention bureau and triumphed ahead of competitor cities London, Istanbul and Salzburg.
Marica Motta, sales operations coordinator of AIM Group International, who worked on the process, said: “It’s a major success for Naples and Italy: ours is the only country to organise this conference three times. The experience gained in the organisation of the previous editions, in Florence in 1986 and Milan in 2001, allowed us to bring the candidacy of Naples to a successful conclusion…It was a challenging project but very rewarding”.
Giovanna Lucherini, director of the Convention Bureau of Naples added that it was an important result for the city. “It was our goal to create a quality proposal that would compete internationally,” he said.
