If you like a lot of content in your conference… join the clic+Club

The annual Cambridge-based clic+ event, which has run for two years as a venue showcase and conference, is spinning off a series of clic+ Club forums, designed as ongoing membership gatherings for sharing knowledge and new ideas.

Chief organiser Rose McDonald from Robinson College says the new, bite-size format is designed to keep dialogue fresh and topics relevant and give the organisation “longevity”.

“We wanted to create content with universal appeal, something everyone would be able to relate to,” McDonald explains, and explains the inaugural clic+Club opens 20 May at Robinson College under the theme: ‘The 5 Steps to Successful Events’.

The first clic+Club meeting kicks off a best-practice lecture series on the various aspects that make up the journey from the event planning stage to delivery and follow up analysis of an event itself.

Speakers at the inaugural session include director of enterprise and principal lecturer at the UK Centre for Events Management, Leeds Beckett University, Jackie Mulligan. She will share preliminary findings of her ground-breaking study on ‘participant experience in 2015’.

“Increasingly, events will need to evidence what they achieve and it will go far beyond the traditional post-event survey. As our understanding of events improves, I am sure we will see a change with more informed event design,” Mulligan said.

And industry consultant Richard John will explore the need to move from ‘seller’ to ‘educator’ by delivering effective knowledge-based live events, such as seminars and workshops.

“I’m really looking forward to the first clic+ Club, and sharing thoughts about research,” said John.“The meetings and events industry is a hotbed of creative thinking, so it’ll be great to explore approaches and processes that help ignite an even greater outpouring of new ideas and initiatives.”

“Many post-event questionnaires are too introverted and obsessive about details to stroke the organiser’s ego. But it’s in there – if they’re designed and implemented correctly – that the real research value can be found…”
