Former Westlife member Brian McFadden joined 50 Irish hoteliers and conference organisers as they pitched to a captive audience on the Thames last week.
Fáilte Ireland’s Dublin Convention Bureau’s Meet Dublin in London event attracted over 250 UK meetings and events buyers on 12 May. The Silver Sturgeon boat was the venue for the event and Miriam Kennedy, head of business tourism with Fáilte Ireland, said: “Corporate meetings are an incredibly lucrative source of revenue for Dublin and, as the UK market is one of the biggest markets for our business tourism sector, an event like this is extremely useful.”
Kennedy said that last year Fáilte Ireland had supported the winning of €128m worth of conferences to Ireland and generated 538 new leads in the drive to secure more business. She added: “In the first three months of this year we have secured conferences worth €33m to Ireland and we have identified over 190 new leads to follow as we seek to grow the business tourism sector in Ireland. This event is just one part of the work which delivers these results.”
Commenting on the ‘Meet Dublin in London’ event, Natalia Borisova, senior MICE project manager with the Travel Boutique in London, said her company had attended several such events in the past and was happy to come again this year. “It gives us a great chance to meet new and existing suppliers from Ireland, learn new ideas about the destination and immerse ourselves for a few hours in Irish culture and hospitality,” she said.
