Samantha Brown has been promoted to head of Conference Aston. The new structure follows an interim management group that ran the organisation for the previous 12 months.
Responsible for Conference Aston’s financial contribution to Aston University, Brown will take operational control across the dedicated 163-bedroom hotel and two conference centres, as well as the wider university’s conferencing and accommodation out of term time.
Brown will also be the interface between Conference Aston and its catering and housekeeping provider Sodexo.
Previously sales director at Conference Aston, the promotion comes following a 12-month period in which Brown was part of the interim management group which ran the venue. The position was previously held by Lucy Talbot, who oversaw the £5.4m refurbishment of the facility in 2014.
Brown said: “I have been in the industry for over 30 years, and have always held commercial roles in strong conference venues. I always thought that my heart lay with the commercial side of the business, however being given the opportunity to form part of the interim team I realised there were facets that I really enjoyed that I hadn’t thought I would. It’s incredibly exciting to continue leading Conference Aston and to focus on embedding the roots that we’ve set for 2016.”
