Global gathering of Greens in Liverpool

The Green Party of England and Wales will host the first joint congress between the Global Greens and the European Green Party, 30 March – 2 April 2017 at ACC Liverpool.

The event, which will incorporate the Green Party of England and Wales’ Spring Conference and attract, organisers predict, an attendance of over 2,000, will be the largest ever gathering of Greens.

Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, said: “We are proud to host this exciting gathering. The global Green family are united in tackling the shared challenges we all face, from taking real action to tackle climate change and the refugee crisis, to ensuring strong local economies that create jobs people can build a life on.”

A committee representing 21 countries and six continents (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Niger, Pakistan, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Ukraine, and the US) has already met at ACC Liverpool to discuss the desired outcomes of this congress.

Councillor Tom Crone, the Green Party’s candidate for Mayor of Liverpool in the upcoming May 2016 elections, said: “I am passionately interested in the environmental fate of the planet, the UK and our incredible city. I want Liverpool to be a by-word for sustainable development so I am really pleased that this landmark green event is coming to Liverpool.”
