Leicestershire announces £1m of conference wins for 2016

Leicester Shire Promotions has announced that its event bidding campaign has helped secure a swathe of national and international conferences and events to be held in Leicester and Leicestershire in 2016. The conferences are estimated by the conference bureau to be worth an extra £1.15m* to the local economy.

The conferences won include the Congress of Polish Student Societies in the UK, the Chartered Institute for Archaeology, Cycle City Active City, Street Choir Festival and the International Association of Media and Communication Research. These events are set to attract 3,500 delegates, the bureau says.

Martin Peters, chief executive of Leicester Shire Promotions says: “Our event bidding approach is based on a targeted strategy of identifying events with a fit and connection with the destination. We then work with a network of venue and accommodation partners to submit a comprehensive and focused bid for each event.”

Peters adds that there are bids out to host other national and international conferences as far ahead as 2019.

* Estimated figures based on accommodation rates, conference venue hire, gala dinner venue hire and social activities, excluding transportation.
