InterContinental London – The O2 gets in gear for car and product launches

InterContinental London – The O2, which claims to be London’s largest new events space and set to open winter 2015, is to target the brand activation and large-scale product launch market in the capital and is actively seeking agency partners.

The events space on offer is a combination of a high-spec 4,500sqm dedicated conference centre and 400sqm of outdoor riverside space.

Management has yet to give an exact date for the formal opening, but the hope is before the end of this year.

The conference centre is positioned next to the hotel with views of the river Thames and Canary Wharf and has its own entrance, leading to the Arora Ballroom. The Ballroom offers a 3,100sqm pillar-free space with high-tech functionality including 88 two-tonne rigging points, allowing for 50 cars to be hung from the celling at any one time.

The conference centre’s Wi-Fi technology allows for more than 5,000 computer or mobile devices to run on high-speed at once and the 400m flat outdoor space at the front of the hotel can be used to add production showcase elements to live events, visible from across the water in Canary Wharf, or private marquees set up to bolster additional events space.

Hotel general manager Hasham Soliman said: “It’s not just the sheer size of our conference centre ballroom that’s attracting interest, but the fact that it’s completely pillar-free with dedicated heavy-load access and hi-tech functionality that makes this space, along with our supporting function rooms, prove such as popular choice for brands looking to launch new products internationally with ease.”

He added: “We’re in discussions with manufacturing and production brands, in particular for vehicle and technology launches over the next 1-5 years, that are looking for a new London partner that understands the complexity of product unveils on a massive scale; so we’re very excited to be working in this space ahead of opening later this year.”

The 18 storey InterContinental London – The O2 features 453 guest rooms and suites, a luxury spa with 17m indoor swimming pool and eight treatment rooms, and several destination restaurants and bars.
