National Trust for Scotland hails sales surge

The National Trust for Scotland has seen sales across its estate grow by 8% year-on-year.

A spokeswoman for the organisation said that since launching its ‘Unique Venues for Corporate Entertaining’ collection, the National Trust for Scotland has seen hospitality income increase from £746,000 in 2013-14 to £803,000 in 2014-15.

She said the greatest growth came from the corporate sector which delivered a 22 per cent increase in events, although she was unable to give a figure for the number of events.

The growth comes as a result of a renewed focus on incentive travel programmes, large scale events, and team building activities, the spokeswoman said, as well as investment in new and upgraded facilities and a dedicated business development team.

There are 19 historic properties across Scotland which make up the National Trust for Scotland’s Unique Venues for Corporate Entertaining collection.

The trust has entered into new partnerships with h caterers GH Event Catering and Wilde Thyme, as well as local specialists, to provide maximum menu choice and innovative cuisine for event bookers. Together with its partners the Trust will host a series of events aimed at buyers to showcase the venues and their capabilities for everything from gala dinners to weddings and family fun days.

Rebecca Sloan, national hospitality manager, National Trust for Scotland, said: “The appeal of heritage venues is enduring and, by giving event organisers access to such unique locations, we can ensure the ongoing viability of these wonderful buildings and estates. We set out with the intention of making our venues more accessible and the results in the first year have been encouraging, particularly as economic conditions have been challenging in some key sectors.”
