It’s a girl thing: think you can make an event happen in your sleep? Now is your chance – and all for a good cause
Women of the events industry are invited to stay up late for a night of pampering and prosecco when Olympia London hosts the Event Industry Sleepover on 17 September.
The fundraiser is the brainchild of Reed Exhibitions group operations manager Jennifer Booth, who wanted to help women network, away from the bustle of industry events.
All proceeds from £30 ticket sales will go to charities Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer Now.
“It’s an opportunity for women in the industry to get together and make those connections, as well as younger people to meet future mentors,” says Booth.
“We’re still very much in the early stages of planning, but we’re trying to make it a mini-festival – it’s glamping at Olympia.”
Ideas for whiling away the early hours range from ‘grown-up’ story time to food experiences.
Helping Booth to cook up a night of fun is Miriam Sigler of Ways & Means Events, Anna Golden and Jazmin Beale of Olympia London, and Liz Agostini of International Confex.
“We’ve got a phenomenal pool of women in the industry,” Sigler said. “My aim is to give them a voice. I’m incredibly excited.”
Olympia London’s Anna Golden believes the sleepover is the first event of its kind at the venue.
“I think the boys are quite jealous, really. They want to do their own sleepover,” Golden says.
“It’s also great to see organisers and suppliers working collectively,” she adds.
Liz Agostini, director of International Confex agrees: “It’s an absolute convergence of the entire events industry. It’s wonderful to have all sectors represented and all for such a good cause.”
The group is hoping the fundraiser will become an annual event.
