New venues open in Hampshire

Hampshire’s Conference Bureau is set to welcome three new venues opening within the county before the end of the year. The Hilton at The Ageas Bowl, home of Hampshire cricket, ispromising a ‘resort’ experience when it opens its doors this month.

The four-star hotel will offer views overlooking the cricket ground, as well as a spa, high-end restaurant, banqueting facilities for up to 700 people and an18-hole golf course. All 171 bedrooms will have either a view of the pitch or the planned golf course.

General manager Dominic Osborne says: “We are now in the final stages of construction and plans are progressing well. The team and I are looking forward to welcoming the hotel’s first guests and unveiling what we have been working on during the length of this exciting project.”

Also for 2015, Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) is working on a permanent base and visitors’ centre at The Camber in Old Portsmouth. The base will be finished and the team operational in time for the 35th America’s Cup challenge, the oldest trophy in international sport, taking place in Portsmouth in July 2015.  Following the race, the facility will also offer a conference and event space on the waterfront.

The third opening is Bistro8, located inside Universal Marina, Sarisbury Green. The luxury bar and restaurant has been taken over by local company Wise Catering and offers private boardroom facilities and gardens overlooking the marina.

Convention bureau director Shirley Pinn said: “Adding three fabulous venues to our portfolio is fantastic, and gathering huge interest in the county. The long awaited opening of the Hilton at the Ageas Bowl is now upon us, adding a great number of conference rooms. The team is working on a number of familiarisation trips for the autumn so that we can showcase these venues to conference organisers.”
