Event organisers are set to put their case for government backing to the favourite in the race for London mayor.

The Britain for Events campaign will host a dinner at the five-star Conrad London St James in October.

Tory MP Zac Goldsmith will be among the high-flyers on the guest list, if he wins his bid to become the Tory candidate.

Goldsmith’s campaign for the London mayoralty nomination is chaired by Nick de Bois, former chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the events industry.

The invite-only dinner will see government officials, civil servants and MPs discuss issues with senior representatives from the UK events industry.

Last year, Britain for Events hosted a dinner during National Events Month in October, which saw representatives from UKTI and DCMS discuss the events industry.

The group has committed to running two more forums this year, one of which will fall during October and one which will be take place early next year.

A spokesman for Britain for Events said: “Last year’s dinner was expertly hosted by the team at Conrad London St James, and we were keen to work with the hotel again for our events this year. These are great forums for government officials, civil servants and MPs to spend time with senior representatives of the events industry in an informal setting.”

Nicholas Chalmers, general manager, Conrad London St James, said: “As a hotel we host a great deal of dinners for our government clients, and its good to be involved in an event that so directly benefits the industry we work in. “We’re looking forward to hosting our industry colleagues and showing those outside of the industry how great UK hospitality is.”
