Hotel representation company Hotel Republic produced a newsflash bulletin using CNN and BBC World news presenter Owen Thomas to reveal London’s Leadenhall Building as the host venue for its planned euroMICEvision event, which takes place 16 May 2016.
The venue, also known to Londoners as the ‘Cheesegrater’, is one of the capital’s newest skyscrapers. Its Level 42 is the highest meeting space in London, offering spectacular views of the city.
Organisers of EuroMicevision say the event will provide a one-stop-shop opportunity per destination for agency visitors.
Hotel Republic MD Kai Schomann, said: “I believe it’s vitally important to hold a networking event for UK agents in London, where around 80% of the country’s leading MICE clients are based. It’s also really important to have a spectacular venue and the Leadenhall Building is just that.
“We are pleased to be the first hotel company to confirm an event at this venue.”
Schomann says the event is loosely based on the famous Song Contest, and a chance for individual tourist boards or their convention bureaux to come together as a four-piece team, bringing with them a hotel, a DMC, perhaps an airline or a restaurant. The idea is they then compete with other countries to be crowned the EuroMicevision Champion in London.
Each team will be judged by the booking agents, so the countries will have to impress with their content. The country awarded the most ’12 points’, the top mark in the Eurovision Song Contest, will win a prize.
“If a country surprises and impresses the agents with something new, something different, something truly extraordinary about their country’s offerings, the MICE agents are sure to bring new business to them,” said Schomann.
EuroMicevision is the brainchild of Schomann. He tells CN that although the agency has organised many client functions, EuroMICEvision will be a first for non-Hotel Republic clients.
