Plans by the country’s largest trade union for hotel and conference centre have been given the green light by Birmingham City Council.
Unite the Union will build a 170-room hotel and conference at Birmingham Science Park Aston.
The conference facilities will measure 3,047sq m, enough space for up to 1,000 delegates, along with almost 1,200 sq m of meeting and conference rooms over two floors.
The proposals were approved subject to a Section 106 obligation, which could see developers paying £51,250 towards administrations costs and wayfinding.
A spokesman for the union told CN: “The project will be to build Unite’s national education, training and conference centre. It will be able to host conferences of up to 1,000 delegates and will be the new home of West Midlands Regional Office. On the same site, a 170 bedroom hotel will also be built. When completed this project will be the new home for Unite’s national education, training and conference centre. Hosting conferences of up to 1,000 delegates, the state of the art facility will be a boost to the local economy and also be home to our West Midlands regional office.”
