Google and Spotify chiefs head to Ibiza to check out sexy tech

A venture capitalist is launching a conference in Ibiza
to focus on the “sexy end” of technology.

The Beta Beach event on May 29 is the brainchild of David
Mickler, founder of QVentures.

Mickler said investors, business leaders and
entrepreneurs from the worlds of technology, digital media and entertainment
will converge of the island for the invitation-only event.

Guests confirmed so far include David Levy from William
Morris, Adam Williams, Spotify md in UK and Benelux, and Fintan Gillespie, industry
head at Google.

Mickler told CN: “I’m paying for it because I have a long
term vision of what I think it can become. This is about getting people
together to exciting ideas and spark new ventures. I want it to be like no
other event in Europe. The vision is to create a uniquely stimulating gathering
that sparks collaborative discussion, new ventures and friendships in a relaxed
setting. It’s a platform that enables a community to share creativity,
intelligence, and passions.

“We’re inviting visionaries, disruptors and investors to
join us for a day of blue sky thinking by the beach, including lunch at the
world famous El Chiringuito, and a unique Ibiza experience as the sun goes
down.

“The real value in conferences and festivals lies between
the plenaries and the break-out sessions.

“All the interesting stuff happens during the breaks and
drinks receptions.

“That’s why Beta Beach inverts the conventional
conference model. The informal elements dominate the agenda and even the more
structured elements take place by the beach.”
