Aberdeen springs £5m worth of business ahead of summer

Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) will welcome conferences estimated to generate £5m in the run up to the summer.
The Scottish Liberal Democrats’ Annual Conference will kick things off when it takes place 20-22 March with 500 party members in attendance.
The 22 Annual Meeting of the United Kingdom Continence Society will attract 300 experts to the region, while April will see Europe’s largest aviation trade event, Routes Europe, heading to Aberdeen. This will be the first Routes Europe conference to be held in the UK.
Katie Bland, director Routes for UBM EMEA said the conference, which is the largest of its regional route development forums, is expected to attract 1,200 delegates.
“The AECC has offered us scope to grow,” she said. “Aberdeen International Airport is already well connected across Europe and will allow easy access for our delegates who will experience the economically vibrant region of the North-East of Scotland and the many business and leisure opportunities on offer.”
VisitScotland Expo will return to AECC for the first time since 2011, 22-23 April. The B2B event will see around 240 Scottish businesses promoting their tourism products and services to 2,000 expected visitors.
April will also see the Energy Cities Annual Conference take place, as well as the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists Conference, which the venue will welcome 13-15 May.
“The high level of association business coming to thecCity in the next few months is fantastic; both for the venue and for the region,” said Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s managing director. “With a combined total of 4,750 delegates expected to attend these events, the economic benefit of these events totals well over £5m.”
