Yorkshire tourism chiefs are set to unveil a wave of plans for the promotion of tourism in the region at what they claim will be the biggest tourism conference in the UK.
Welcome to Yorkshire’s Y15 Conference at Scarborough Spa on 18 March will include target businesses from across Yorkshire to make up an intended 1,000 delegate list.
The conference will be free to attend and Welcome to Yorkshire says it will showcase its entry for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, although the tourism board is keeping other surprise content under wraps.
Y15 will run like a live TV show and will be hosted by national sports presenter Rob Walker.
Organisers claim the conference will feature star guests, with previous events having welcomed Yorkshire celebs ranging from Last Tango in Halifax Star Dean Andrews to Paralympic superstar Hannah Cockroft MBE – and even the Deputy Prime Minister.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Yorkshire’s profile as a destination has never been higher, so it is absolutely essential that together as a county we take advantage of this opportunity to cement our place on the global tourism stage. Y15 will help bring businesses together and highlight our plans for the future to capitalise on the achievements already made – and even better, it’s free to attend.
“It’s about inspiring and invigorating our incredible tourism industry to get ready to go again and show the rest how it’s done when it comes to providing the warmest welcome, the best service and the most unrivalled mix of experiences. Add in the forthcoming inaugural Tour de Yorkshire – which will again see Yorkshire go global on TV screens around the planet – and we already have a year to remember.”

A stage of the first ever Tour de Yorkshire international cycle race will take place in Scarborough in May.
