South east organisers on track for northern venues

Conference and event organisers from the south
east have been discovering the attractions of the north at a meet the buyer
event.

The event at the science Museum in London was organised
by Visit York’s Business tourism arm, VisitYork4Meetings, and attended by 24 meetings,
incentive, conference and events buyers from London and the south of England,
including representatives from KPMG, The Royal College of Surgeons of England,
The Institution of International Language Centres, and The Institution of
Environmental Services.

Dinner was held in the museum’s ‘Making the
Modern World’ gallery, which houses George Stephenson’s original
Rocket locomotive.

Supported by East Coast, the Science Museum and
York venue partners, the dinner was ‘two hours from London’, themed to
encourage these key buyers to visit York to experience it for themselves.

Kate McMullen, head of Visit York said: “Our aim is to provide a unique
opportunity to showcase York to these senior London buyers.  We’re
confident this event will generate increased interest in the city for business
events and boost awareness of our proximity in terms of traveling times to the
capital.’

Hollie Coffey, events manager for the International Association of Language
Centres said: “We’re based in Canterbury and I’m currently
organising an event in York and Leeds, so the opportunity to meet so many
of York’s venues in London is a truly helpful experience for us. The dinner has
been a great opportunity to learn more about the city and
explore its many options, and we look forward to working
closely with the team at VisitYork4Meetings going forwards.”
