The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is drawing up a shortlist of five architect teams for a tender to redesign the Sevenoaks community and conference centre in Kent.
The new scheme will replace current facilities in Otford Road, which are deemed no longer fit for purpose.
The 30-year-old building is also expensive to maintain and the town council has agreed to partially fund the project.
The council has stipulated the new building must have flexible use, with spaces including a large events hall able to seat 250 delegates and space to house relocated council offices.
Architects who make the shortlist will be invited to submit design concepts (by 12 March), with each receiving an honorarium of £4,000.
Mayor of Sevenoaks Simon Raikes said: “We look forward to receiving the architectural designs for the new Bat & Ball centre and putting them on display to the public in May.”
