Convention Edinburgh launches new web dimension

Convention Edinburgh says its members secured 174 new bid wins for the city and surrounding area in 2014. These conferences and events are expected to bring 63,000 delegates to the city and generate £95m for the local economy. 

Edinburgh remains the number one ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) association conference destination in the UK outside of London.

The city’s convention bureau has also launched a new website and toolkit for meeting planners. The went live 29 January and offers a fresh portal to services, including an accommodation booking service and a new delegate Edinburgh Rewards Card. 

The website also hosts video interviews with conference ambassadors, reinforcing the role the 500-strong network of academic and business professionals have played in winning business worth over £510m in economic impact for the Scottish capital in the last 10 years.

Lesley Williams, head of business tourism at Convention Edinburgh, said the global conference market remained highly competitive.

“For the first time, the full scale of Convention Edinburgh’s comprehensive and free services are clearly and simply displayed on one, mobile-compatible website. By developing new multimedia resources and content to support our clients’ bid pitches, we’ve also added a further dimension to how we can work with them to bring new events to Scotland’s capital.”
