New Year additions to London venue stock

London can expect some new venues stock in 2015, including the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street, which officially opened its doors on 2 January. Level 35 is home to Sky Pod, a bar offering 360-degree views of central London, while levels 36 and 37 boast a brasserie and restaurant.
The spring will see D&D London transform the former home to the German Gymnastics Society in Kings Cross to create a ground floor 150-cover brasserie and bar with outdoor terraces, along with a smaller restaurant and private dining area on a mezzanine level.
In autumn 2015 IET London: Savoy Place is set to reopen after a two-year £30m renovation. The venue’s first major structural renovation in 30 years will increase delegate capacity. Other major changes at Savoy Place include an expansion of the Riverside Suite and a new lecture theatre.
Highlights of London’s planned 2015 hotel openings include Z Hotel Shoreditch, a 111-bedroom design-led conversion of a former office building, while the 452-room InterContinental London The O2 will open in September and will feature a spa, restaurants, a club lounge and a sky bar with 180-degree views over the River Thames. InterContinental London The O2 will also house a 2,972sqm pillar-free ballroom, the largest in Europe.
Both the Gansevoort Hotel Group and the Art’otel will open their first London properties in the year ahead, also in Shoreditch. The Gansevoort will feature 120 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, rooftop pool and lounge as well as a 557sqm meeting and event space. The Art’otel Shoreditch will be an 18-storey, 350 bedroom hotel.

Tracy Halliwell, Director of Major Events & Business Tourism at London & Partners,
said: “The number of new hotels coming to market reflects the huge
amount of properties being developed in the city, while the wealth of
new restaurants underlines the strength and diversity of London’s
ever-changing food scene. We are excited about the year ahead and
looking forward to sharing the best of what London has to offer to
clients from around the world.”

Meanwhile, etc.venues has announced that it will open another new London training venue in January 2015, bringing its total venue portfolio to 15 venues. The new 1,858sqm West End venue will be situated at 86 Edgware Road, adjacent to Marble Arch Station and will offer 22 rooms over three floors for groups for up to 120 delegates.

The Marble Arch venue is etc.venues’ third opening in 12 months, and follows on the group’s new openings at  155 Bishopsgate in May and Monument in September 2014.

Director of sales Margaretha Welsford said: “Our clients have said there is a shortage of our type of venue in the West End  and the designers are bringing in a more relaxed styled interior to banish ’Bored Meetings’ and  facilitate interaction.  A major feature will be a new open plan bar/kitchen to allow delegates to become more involved in our food –  numerous tweets and 57, 000 views of our food blog last year tells me that good food plays an essential part in keeping  delegates happy”.
