National tourism board VisitEngland is to take its national tourism awards to the North East for the first time.
The Sage Gateshead has been chosen as the venue to host the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015.
Penelope, Viscountess Cobham CBE, Chairman of VisitEngland, made the announcement this week to an industry audience at the North East Tourism Awards held at the Stadium of Light.
Winners from the North East Tourism Awards will, along with other regional winners, have the opportunity to go forward to the national Awards for Excellence to be held on 11 May.
It promises to be an exciting year for events for the region, with Newcastle hosting part of the Rugby World Cup 2015.
Jenny McGee, VisitEngland’s Enterprise Director said: “We are looking forward to bringing the Awards to Gateshead. The Sage is a spectacular venue and together with the convention bureau staff, the NewcastleGateshead Initiative has put forward a fantastic support package that meets all our selection criteria. We look forward to hosting a wonderful evening here.”
