Organiser Media 10 has announced the acquisition of The Build Show and the launch of UK Construction Week.
Held at the NEC from 6 to 11 October 2015, the week of industry dedicated events will feature The Build Show and Grand Designs Live, bringing together the construction industry sector as a whole.
UK Construction Week will be supported by the UK government and a raft of industry associations, as well as trade and consumer media, said Media 10, with the aim of increasing productivity and profit in the sector that employs 2.2m people in the UK.
Around 50,000 visitors are expected to attend the construction-dedicated week. A further seven events will be added, with their own seminar, debate programme, heavy plant demos, materials and surfaces features and demonstrations.
“I think the best way to describe UK Construction Week is that it is the best construction magazine you could imagine, but it’s live,” Media 10 CEO Lee Newton told CN’s sister publication EN. “It starts with The Build Show which is on for three days, then on its third day, there is a crossover where Grand Designs Live starts which allows us to have a trade and consumer shows all under one roof, with a hall in between which will be open to both.
“The response we have had from exhibitors of both shows has been incredible. Exhibitors from each show have already doubled the size of their stands and some have even moved into the middle hall, which is open for the whole of UK Construction Week.”
“In the UK, with new railway lines, hospitals, houses and roads being built and many more in the pipeline, there is a construction boom going on,” he added.
“UK Construction Week gives us here at Media 10 the opportunity to combine our experience and leading events to create the strongest trade event the building and construction industry has ever seen,” said Newton.
“We already attract more architects, designers and specifiers to our events than any other organiser through 100% Design, Clerkenwell Design Week and Grand Designs Live.”
The acquisition of The Build Show follows Media 10’s ever-growing portfolio of products including the recent acquirement of the Cake and Bake Shows and the Good Homes magazine.
Paul Godwin, managing director of FIT/Build Show Events, who launched The Build Show with colleague Matthew Glover last year said: “It is the right event at the right time in the resurgence of the building and construction industry and, combined with the resources and existing events within the Media 10 stable under the UK Construction Week banner, will deliver an event worthy of Britain’s most important sector.”
Newton said the idea to do a construction show had been on the board’s agenda for a while. “We all started in the construction industry so this is a natural move for us as it is an industry we are all extremely passionate about.
“My team here at Media 10 are fired up and excited about UK Construction Week as it is show that brings the UK construction industry together to help build Britain’s future.”
