Smart Monday, IMEX America’s pre-show education day opened IMEX America week in Las Vegas, with over 1,000 meetings professionals taking part in 39 development sessions on 13 October.
Powered by MPI, the programme combined an opening keynote, education seminars and workshops throughout the day, Association Focus and Association Evening plus the first instalment of PCMA Business School at IMEX America.
Topics spanned Strategic Planning, Project Management, Stakeholder Management, Implementation, Financial Management, and Human Resources among others.
Steve Gross, Executive Director and Chief Playmaker for consumer brand Life is Good’s Playmakers programme, opened with a keynote applying his passion for the power of play with children to the meetings industry, saying: “When people get together through meetings and events it is critical to deliver playfulness which helps them engage, connect and explore, to enjoy being there ? in the now.” He stressed that being playful is not just achieved through a set of ‘fun activities’, but an innovative attitude.
Smart Monday then delivered sessions from the industry’s leading acronyms: MPI, ECM, GBTA, GMIC, HSMAI, IAPCO, ISES and SITE.
Interactive sessions, case studies, peer-to-peer learning and networking all formed part of an Association Focus, an event designed specifically for association executives as part of Smart Monday.
The Association Focus was followed by an Association Evening reception, hosted by MGM Resorts International, at the MGM Grand Conference Center where hundreds of the day’s delegates mingled with suppliers and IMEX partners.
The three-day trade show proper opened on 14 October with organisers predicting an increase in hosted buyer, exhibitor and pre-scheduled appointment numbers.
The show floor is 13 per cent bigger than in 2013, organisers report, with the biggest increase from North American exhibitors who have increased their footprint by 16.5 per cent.
Seventy new stands have joined the show.
IMEX America is taking place at the Sands Expo, Las Vegas until 16 October. All readers are invited to visit the CN stand: 2431.
