Celtic Manor Resort appoints Ian Edwards as CEO

The Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales has appointed Ian Edwards as its new Chief Executive, as it is revealed that the construction for the new Wales International Convention Centre is scheduled to start in 2015.
Edwards (pictured), who has been Chief Operating Officer at the resort since 2008, takes over from Dylan Matthews, who has taken up a new position as Executive Vice President of Wesley Clover, the holding company for all of Sir Terry Matthews’ businesses, including Celtic Manor.
“I am delighted to take up this new challenge at such an exciting time for the Celtic manor Resort,’ says Edwards. “We are now in the detailed planning stage for the new Wales International Convention Centre with construction scheduled to start in 2015.”
As COO, Edwards was a driving force behind the resort’s bid for, and staging of, the 2014 NATO Summit. He has also overseen business and leisure strategies, which have seen occupancy levels rise to almost 90 per cent.
Matthews, who had been Chief Executive at Celtic Manor since 2003, will still be involved in resort business in his new role at Wesley Clover, which has its offices at the Celtic Manor.
As well as working with the hospitality, real estate and technologies businesses operating within the Wesley Clover Group, he will help nurture the new companies emerging from the Alacrity Graduate Entrepreneurship Foundation.
