Aberdeen has won the opportunity to host the seventh edition of the biennial SPE Intelligent Energy conference and exhibition, to be held in 2016.
The event will take place at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) from 6 to 8 September.
More than 2,000 visitors are expected to attend the event, which will showcase the latest smart technologies and intelligent energy solutions.
“Holding SPE Intelligent Energy 2016 in Aberdeen presents an exciting opportunity to bring together international experts in a city which has produced some of the most progressive smart technology and thinking,” said Jeff Spath, 2014 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
“The possibilities and opportunities arising from the new digital world are endless and this event provides a unique platform to explore the ideas, processes and technologies that are shaping smart achievements across other industries as well as our own.”
Vasyl Zhygalo, Senior Exhibition Director of Energy and Marine at Reed Exhibitions added: “We are excited to be holding SPE Intelligent Energy in Aberdeen for the first time and to continue our long-standing and successful partnership with the city where our flagship event, SPE Offshore Europe, has been taking place for over 40 years.”
As in previous editions, the 2016 conference will be produced by SPE and will comprise a three-day technical programme with an estimated 80 papers covering topics including technology, integrated operations, leadership, cyber-security and big data. The exhibition, organised by Reed Exhibitions, will showcase new and developing technologies and expertise by leading operators, service companies and technology providers.
“We are delighted that Reed Exhibitions and the Society of Petroleum Engineers have confirmed that they are bringing the SPE Intelligent Energy Conference and Exhibition to Aberdeen in 2016,” said Brian Horsburgh, MD of the AECC. “This event is a great showcase of the wider energy information technology talent in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire and appropriate that it is hosted at AECC as the UK’s energy exhibition centre.
“We look forward to welcoming the delegates, exhibitors and organisers in 2016, and working with them to ensure this event is a success.”
SPE Intelligent Energy 2014 was held in Utrecht, the Netherlands and saw industry professionals from 35 countries, including 600 conference delegates, participate in panel discussions, special sessions and interactive Q&As.
