UK event agencies Zibrant and CWT Meetings & Events were among those taking part in the recent inaugural MPI CMP Boot Camp at Excel London.
MPI UK & Ireland’s intensive two-day training programme was held at a time when some have questioned the professionalism and training standards in the sector.
Association members, including suppliers, were joined by a group of senior corporate meeting planners, all working towards becoming Certified Meeting Professionals (CMP).
The Boot Camp was developed by MPI partners, the UK Centre for Events Management at Leeds Beckett University, thanks to a grant from the MPI Foundation.
Based on the Convention Industry Council’s 2012 International Standards, MPI UK & Ireland claims its CMP Boot Camp represents the most advanced training for the CMP Programme available.
The association intends to run the MPI CMP Boot Camp at least twice a year, with the next planned in January 2015 and open to all industry professionals who wish to prepare for the CMP examination.
“The Boot Camp has enabled me to assess my own skill set against industry peers and I now have a better understanding of my personal study goals to pass the CMP,” said Viki Stapleton, Events Manager at Schroders who was among the pioneering group.
“Having been in the events industry for over 15 years, the MPI CMP Boot Camp has been an invaluable aid to recap on my work experiences and learn ‘text book’ techniques that will help me gain the CMP accreditation.”
Richard Parker, CMM, Director of Healthcare Strategy at Zibrant added: “The boot camp is deliberately intense, acting as a powerful, relevant and insightful preparation for the exam. I want to be at the forefront of the next wave of CMP ambassadors helping raise the professional recognition of which our industry is so deserving. Leeds Beckett’s course design is first class, the pace ideal and the delivery excellent.”
