ISES UK’s new President outlines plans for future

The International Special Events Society (ISES) gathered 200 members and industry professionals at EGG London last night (8 September) for its annual AGM.

New president Kelly Baker (pictured), who has taken over from Immediate Past President Jane Hague, outlined her plans for the year ahead, including forging closer relationships with other international ISES chapters in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

“We’re reminding members that we are a global association, and that there are global opportunities and ways of connecting with people globally,” Baker said in a press briefing before the AGM.

Director at large Robert Dunsmore will help Baker achieve this by pushing to get ISES UK’s UKTI recognition in an effort to promote the association globally.

“We’re one of the chapters with the fastest growing membership database, and we’ve increased our members quite considerably compared to other ISES chapters within the EMEA region and the US,” Baker said. “We’re quite well placed globally.”

A number of national goals are also on Baker’s agenda, including making ISES UK the first event industry association to achieve ISO20121 accreditation. Director at Large Nicole Hatch is in charge of driving that forward, and Baker hopes to tick that box before her presidency ends in summer 2015.

“We’ve got about another six to 12 months to go,” she said, “so it may be that it’s not quite achieved by the end of my year, but that’s what we’re pushing for.”

With the largest ever UK Board in place – 18 members in total – ISES UK is hoping to recruit more creatives within the industry. The association has already seen people “coming out of the woodwork, wanting to connect and build relationships,” Baker said.
She is targeting boosting the membership from 171 to over 200 before President Elect Kevin Jackson, George P Johnson Vice-President, takes the reins in 2015.

House of Beau provided entertainment for the evening, alongside Partridge Events; Equisite Cocktails arranged for the drinks; Ravenous Catering and Events kept everyone well fed; and Event Prop Hire supplied the furniture and décor around the venue.

Parent organisation ISES recently elected Kevin White its new President.
