Handan Boyce, General Manager of the Halic Congress Center and former GM of the Istanbul CVB, is the second candidate to declare an intention to contest the election to succeed Arnaldo Nardone as President of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
This year’s (53rd) ICCA Congress takes place in Boyce’s home country, in the city of Antalya, 1-5 November.
CEO of the Gold Coast Tourism Corporation, Australia, Martin Winter, had previously declared he would stand for election to the post vacated by Nardone, who steps down having completed his four-year term.
Declaring her candidacy, Boyce said: “We have achieved a huge amount so far but there is always a long way to go with many new areas to discover. ICCA is our community and we can still reach new heights for ourselves personally, as professionals, in our business and in recognition for our industry at large”.
In 2006, Handan Boyce (49) took over the first leadership role within ICCA and was elected ICCA Mediterranean Chapter Chair, one year later she was appointed to the Board of Directors of ICCA representing the destination marketing sector. In 2010 she became a Management and Finance Committee member and the 3rd Vice-President of ICCA.
Boyce is also founder of the Turkish Meeting Professionals Association, MPI Turkey Club.
ICCA membership in Turkey has grown from 13 members in 2003 to 47 at present.
