VisitLanarkshire has signed up to support Britain for Events, the promotional campaign for the UK events industry.
The partnership follows the destination’s launch of its countrywide hospitality training portal BeLanarkshire in May and re-lauch of its dedicated venues website Venueslanarkshire.com in July, further signalling the country’s growing emphasis on the business tourism and events industry.
Through its association with Britain for Events VisitLanarkshire will have a place and input at some of the industry’s leading business events and innovations, including National Events Month in October and ministerial steering groups. This includes development of the All Party Parliamentary Inquiry into the international competitiveness of the UK events industry.
“The business and leisure tourism sectors combined currently contribute around £317m to the Lanarakshire economy and, with an estimated three million visitors travelling to the area annually, we have a diverse events destination worth shouting about,” says Mark Calpin Chair of the Lanarkshire Area Tourism Partnership.
“Our business tourism product is continually growing and we strive to develop our portfolio of venues and strive to enhance this as much as possible. We’ve been proactive to develop our own industry initiatives and align ourselves with organisations that will help spread these messages and Britain for Events is a great step towards achieving this,” he adds.
