Two Tynesiders whose paths have crossed since childhood have now found themselves back in the same team having taken up new roles at Newcastle United Football Club.
Lucy Goodwin (23) is now working as Operations Manager for Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events at St James’ Park and started her job just a few days after 24-year-old Ashleigh Hook took up a position as an HR officer at the club.
But the appointments are just the latest in a whole host of coincidences which has seen their paths cross since childhood.
Hook and Goodwin both attended St Thomas More School in North Shields [my own birthplace – Ed] and, while teenagers, both worked part-time in hospitality at St James’ Park, during match days.
Both of them then went off to Leeds to study and both now live in Wallsend on the outskirts of Newcastle.
“It was incredible to find that Lucy had got a job here as well,” said Hook. “We’ve known each other on and off over the years but it is amazing to find that we’ve both ended up at the same place.”
I was always interested in working in the hospitality industry and it’s fantastic to be doing that and working for a company like Sodexo,” said Goodwin.
“And I can’t get over the fact that Ashleigh is here as well.”
Frankie Angus, General Manager for Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events at NUFC, said the girls were “a real asset to the team.”
“Both Ashleigh and Lucy have fitted in very well and are proving to be invaluable additions to our workforce here at NUFC,” he said.
