Global conference research guru, CN columnist and long-time event management academic Rob Davidson has revealed to CN he is saying goodbye to teaching and moving on to concentrate on research and consultancy.
Rob leaves his post as Senior Lecturer in Events Management at the University of Greenwich in London this month to focus exclusively on his research and consultancy activities, specialising in the conference market.
His new consultancy, MICE Knowledge, will be launched at the end of this month.
For the past 15 years, Davidson has combined his teaching role with applied research and consultancy for a number of high-profile clients in the UK and overseas.
“But recently,” he tells CN, “these activities have grown to the point where it was getting to be more and more of a challenge to combine them with work in higher education.
“I know I’ll miss my colleagues and students at Greenwich University – a lot. It’s a great place to teach, and study, events management. But I’m looking forward to having more free time to devote to my clients and to be able to accept more of the interesting research projects that they offer me.
“There is still so much that we don’t know about the functioning of the conference market, and I’m excited about having more time to analyse the trends in this business and helping to identify examples of best-practice for conference industry professionals.”
