Harrogate International Centre (HIC) has launched an ambassador programme aimed at bringing more events to the region.
Harrogate is hoping to capitalise on a summer, which has seen the North Yorkshire town host the Tour de France and produce two gold-winning Commonwealth Games swimmers.
Professionals and those with links to industry or trade organisations are being invited to join the programme and help boost the region’s economy.
“An ambassador programme is something which many of the UK’s major event venues have and it’s a great way for us to work closer with influential people in certain sectors,” said Simon Kent, HIC Director. “When someone joins our programme we will give them all the guidance they need to help bring their organisation to HIC Yorkshire.”
Ramnath Subramaniam, a Paediatric Surgeon and Chair of the Educational Committee of the European Society of Paediatric Urology (ESPU) used his influence to bring the ESPU annual conference to Harrogate in 2016.
He said: “Our conference can be held anywhere in Europe and it always attracts the leading professionals and players from all over the world, including Europe, Asia and America, in this particular branch of medicine so I wanted to bring the event to HIC Yorkshire and raise the profile of the region.
“Acting as a HIC ambassador, I worked with the venue to successfully win the event,” he added.
