The RCP is commemorating the anniversary with a programme of events and activities across 2014, including an official celebratory event on 5 November, exactly 50 years after Her Majesty the Queen opened the building.
There will be a reception for Open House on 8 September 2014 and a series of new memorabilia and hospitality packages featuring tours of the building.
Sales and Marketing Manager at the RCP Natacha Allen comments: “We are thrilled to be celebrating 50 years in our stunning building. We are looking forward to a celebratory year and welcoming clients to the venue with a series of special initiatives to mark the occasion.” She added that conferences and events at the RCP would be enhanced in the celebration year with new delegate enrichment packages.
GM Clive Ostler adds: “We’re delighted that we have been able to maintain and preserve Sir Denys Lasdun’s architectural masterpiece, while at the same time using the flexibility he gave us to update our facilities and create a conference and meeting venue suitable for the present day. Sir Denys famously said: ‘Our job is to give the client on time and on cost, not what he wants but what he never dreamed he wanted and, when he gets it, he recognises it as something he wanted all the time’.”
The RCP currently holds the title of ‘World’s Best Convention Centre’ awarded by the International Convention Centre Association (AIPC) and has regularly attained the Gold Venue Verdict standard awarded by BDRC for customer service.
