Cork Convention Bureau (CCB) has told CN that it expects the location of its planned convention centre to be revealed next month.
CCB generated in excess of €8.2m (£.6.3m) worth of business for the Cork region in 2013. The projected growth rate for the next three years is at more than €47m, with the completion of a dedicated convention centre.
Cork Convention Bureau Business Tourism Manager Evelyn O’Sullivan told CN that, although Cork is known for its pharmaceutical credentials, it has recently diversified into more diverse sectors.
“We are targeting around 10 association events per year. We have a lot of IT companies springing up, and our links with universities are strong. We are in the process of discussing development of the convention centre, with two locations in mind. We expect to announce the site by the beginning of next month,” she added.
A report into the project found that the return on investment for every €1 invested into CCB was 30:1; with the number of jobs supported by the CCB estimated at 300, based on Fáilte Ireland figures.
In other convention bureau news, Edinburgh last week announced a delegate reward scheme.
