Leicestershire-based event management agency Ashfield Meetings & Events has welcomed its third set of students to its university placement scheme following two years of successful operation.
Ashfield says the scheme provides a platform for the successful applicants to gain vocational insight and understanding to the meetings and events sector through a year-long work placement. The scheme is also a way for the agency to strengthen relationships with academic institutions offering event management degrees.
Working with universities in the UK and abroad, Ashfield Meetings & Events shortlisted 12 undergraduates to attend an assessment in May, which consisted of individual presentations, group exercises, a tour of the head office facilities, a company overview presentation, a question and answer session with existing agency staff and IT tests.
Five placements have been offered, with Katie Mason, Alexandra Gee, Rebecca Davison, Matilde Liegis and Charmain Stapane joining the company as Project Executives.
“We have just completed the second year of our scheme and have had a very high calibre of undergraduate – so much so that we have made employment offers to several of them, to return to careers with us once they have completed their studies,” says Head of Operational Excellence, Helen Capelin.
“We are delighted to welcome the new class of undergraduates this week. We will be registering them in our comprehensive internal training programme and looking to provide them with experiences and opportunities that will help demonstrate the realities of a future career in event management.”
Ashfield has recently welcomed back Jessica Dodsley who joined the agency in 2012 as part of the first university placement scheme and spent a year with an operational account team. She returned to Sheffield Hallam University to complete her studies and is now back working for the agency.
