Lanarkshire tourism launches new training portal

BeLanarkshire, a new training portal catering for the tourism and hospitality industry in Lanarkshire has been launched by the local Area Tourism Partnership (ATP) in conjunction with support from local councils, VisitScotland and the private sector.

The portal is designed to provide education on the value of the sector in the area, as well as to build the profile of the destination and ensure visitors receive quality service.
The BeLanarkshire online programme is free and takes around two hours to complete. Modules test participants on areas of essential knowledge and skills in the business and leisure tourism sectors which contribute an estimated £317m to the Lanarkshire economy. Three million visitors travel to the area annually, according to the portal’s founders.
Mark Calpin, Chair of the Lanarkshire ATP, stresses tourism is a major contributor both for jobs and the local economy.

“BeLanarkshire has been designed to ensure that workers across the hospitality and tourism sector continue to act as ambassadors for the area. This is especially important when we consider the plethora of events that will be taking place across Scotland this year, presenting Lanarkshire with a real opportunity to shine on a global platform.”
