AIBTM’s theme means business in Orlando

Over 500 exhibitors and over 700 hosted buyers are set to visit the 2014 edition of Reed Travel Exhibition’s AIBTM show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando (OCCC) which opens today (11 June).

The show is offering a Knowledge Programme with 50 education sessions and 28.5 hours of continuing education credits.

An Education Day preceded the tradeshow opening and included a keynote session with Michael Hoffman, ‘Igniting a Culture of Success and Mastering the Tornado’. Hoffman’s style is energetic to say the least and 100  per cent targeted at a home audience. If Hoffman is more theme park showman than intellectual leadership guru, then plenty of challenging ideas were thrown out at the invitation-only Meetings Leadership Summit led by Jim Austin.

He curated an afternoon session for senior level executives  to explore innovative ways of making their organisations more competitive and better able to respond to changing business dynamics.

The Education Day also offered sessions on professional certification, ’60 apps in 60 minutes’ and Strategic Meetings Management, ‘Beyond the Basics’.

IBTM Portfolio Director Sallie Coventry told CN that over 30 per cent more meetings had been scheduled at the show between buyers and exhibitors than in 2013 in Chicago.

Day One of the exhibition also opens with an update on the Meetings Mean Business coalition campaign.

VisitOrlando and local hotels are all active in supporting the hosted buyer programme, with a full social programme offering delegates a taste of the local cuisine, culture and attractions.

AIBTM 2014 runs at the OCCC until 12 June.
